The Grange, Hunnington

The Grange was once the home farm of Halesowen Abbey. In 1558, Thomas Blount and George Tuckey leased it for 1,000 years to the tenant, John Ives, whose daughter Joyce married William Lea in 1576. The house then descended in the Lea family who paid tax on five fireplaces in 1672. In 1709 William Lea of the Grange married Frances, sister and one of the heirs of Ferdinando Ward, 10th Lord Dudley. In 1737, their daughter and heir Ann Lea married William Smith, owner of The Breach and Dovehousefields Farm. The title of Lord Dudley was then inherited by the Lea-Smiths who rebuilt The Grange in the late 18th century.
